The Sixth International Scientific Conference

3 - 5 th June 2021

The objectives of the International scientific conference "Tourism Challenges amid COVID-19", which will be held from the 3-5th June 2021 in Vrnjačka Banja, organized by the Faculty of Hotel Management and Tourism in Vrnjačka Banja, University of Kragujevac, refer to the consideration of various tourism-related aspects and impact of tourism, as one of the world-leading industries, to the development of the countries. The basic idea is to systematize the effects of tourism on the economic, political, demographic, social development by one multidisciplinary approach.

Tourism is among the most affected sectors by the COVID-19 pandemic. Restrictions on travel and a sudden drop in consumer demand have led to an unprecedented fall in international tourist arrivals, which in turn have led to economic loss and the loss of jobs in this sector. The destinations most reliant on tourism for jobs and economic growth are likely to be the hardest affected. Because of the pandemic, 100-120 million direct tourism jobs are at risk (UNWTO, 2020). Having that in mind, the objective of the 6th International Scientific Conference will be to consider the consequences for the tourism sector, as wel as a responsible recovery of the tourism sector from the COVID-19 crisis. There is ongoing debate within the academic community in the global scale how to respond on tourism challenges amid COVID-19 and how to build tourism in a more resilient way. Thus, this event is seen as an excellent opportunity to share experiences and advance knowledge related to tourism challenges amid COVID-19.

In achieving aforementioned Conference objectives, we highly encourage contributions of tourismologists, economists, managers, lawyers, urban planners, sociologists, demographers, geographers, other eminent scientists from universities, institutes, colleges, including representatives of tourism organizations and local self-governments from Serbia and other countries. Organizer’s intention is to open debate on the role tourism plays in the economy of different countries, factors which influence tourism development, measures that need to be taken to adapt to those developments, challenges tourism industry is facing in the pandemic era, balance that needs to be made between the rights and obligations of the users and providers of tourism services in order to ensure competitiveness of business, etc. It is expected that discussion not only gives answer to many current questions, but also to encourage new ones, in order to improve the tourism-related theory and practice.
